Bullets, anyone?

So um, yes. Let’s see. LOTS going on, not been blogging so much, yada, yada, yada.

Here’s a brief, maybe just two things – we’ll see once my fingers get tapping, list:

-Narda and I got our marriage license in New Canaan, Connecticut on Tuesday, June 2nd – we’re “official,” although we’ve always felt official, but in the eyes of the law, we’re just your average, everyday married couple. Really.

-My beloved job with Congregation Tehillah, like many jobs right now, is being threatened by the economy. I’m saying a misheberach for the Shul I like working for…

The toothcident

So yesterday, Malka and her friend, Afek were running around, and Malka, being taller than many of her peers, and Afek, being shorter, well, Malka is literally a head taller than Afek. And they were running. And they crashed into one another. And her teeth embedded themselves into his eyebrow. But apparently, his eyebrow is fine. (I saw it today.) The same cannot be said for Malka’s two front teeth. Nothing like an emergency to create one’s first trip to the dentist. Miss Sheila called me as Noah Matan and I were walking home last night, and thankfully, she started out with: “Malka’s fine.” “But…” and then proceeded to describe the “toothcident” in detail. Which I pictured in my mind the entire time. OOF. I pictured the worst case scenario, but Sheila assured me it was just loose, but she was concerned.

When we get home, I scramble to find that piece of paper with recommendations for Pediatric Dentists from Malka’s doctor, but alas. So I turn to my good friend google, and I find a dentist that is close to Malka’s school. Bonus. I call, fully expecting an answering service. But I got a human being. Lovely Dana! And she secured us an appointment for today at 1:00pm. A little fenagling with my work schedule, and voila, we were set. And then. She said those famous last words: “Does Malka use a pacifier?” “Um, yes, but just for sleeping.” “Oh. OK, it may be a rough night for you, but no pacifier until she sees the dentist.” “And just soft foods. Like yogurt, applesauce, and ice cream.” GULP.

Miss Sheila and Malka show up around 7:45 or so, and I see my poor baby with a fat lip, and a bloody, loose tooth. I proceed to dole out motrin, ice cream, and a smoothie – Malka thinks she struck gold. She finally conks out around 10pm, even though she went to bed around 9 – (no paci, remember).

Noah Matan wakes up for his usual 2:30am party time cocktail hour, and after I get him all snuggled back in, I hear Malka start in with the moaning and crying. I try to wait it out a while, but to no avail. So I go in, and she’s a right mess, asking for her paci. I load her up with tylenol, and get in bed with her until she falls asleep. Noah Matan wakes up at 5am, raring to start his day, and Malka follows suit at 6am.

I am a zombie.

3510201161_8bfb9bc843_oNarda takes Noah Matan to daycare, and I take Malka to the dentist. She is shy at first, but turns out to be a ROCK STAR SUPERSTAR! She’s even laughing with the dentist. They totally did not pay me to be their spokesperson, but um, this will be Malka’s dental practice until they kick her out – it was that awesome, and inexpensive. And 3 blocks form her school! She even sat still for the X-ray.

What the X-ray shows is that the nerve above her left tooth (think stage directions here) is totally dead, gone, missing. It’s been filled in by bone, and her right front tooth has barely any rot there at all.

He asked if there was a previous injury. Um. Um. Remember that wall thing a while back? No? Let me refresh your memory… 387515432_b8651146b0_oWe were in DC, visiting our friends at ADPROB, and Natalie wasn’t even really a full on walker yet, but the girls were playing on a futon on the floor of Jenny’s apartment, and Malka, (per usual) was being her wild and silly self), and somehow, with FOUR ADULTS SITTING ON THE FREAKING FUTON, she still managed to face plant INTO THE WALL. As evidenced by the teeth marks above. Didn’t think anything of it at the time. I mean, minor worries, but generally? We all figured she was more or less fine….

Um. OK, see the x-ray above? Her body has indeed, been fine, and healed the spaces, but yeah, that initial fall messed up her two front teeth pretty bad. But the thing is, they have always kind of stuck out, so it was bound to happen.

So now? Malka is on the soft foods (all she heard the dentist say was ice cream) diet, and we go in next week to see if the teeth are still there. If they are? He will pull them. He does not envision them healing themselves again, and he thinks they will continue to be loose, but there’s always a chance. He also doesn’t want to wait too long, for fear of the teeth coming out while she is unaware, and aspirating them or something. He said to not be alarmed if they change color, and if we DO have to pull them, because of the dead root issue, it wouldn’t hurt her at all. And the underlying bone and jaw is doing great.

But NO paci, sippy cups, straws, or any pressure on her front teeth. She is to chew on the side, and eat soft foods. And the NO paci part? THAT is going to kill me over the next few days.

Thrift Store Score~

Two posts in one day! What will I do?

So I have been envious of the Phil and Ted’s, but you know, with Malka walking most everywhere, and you know, us not having a spare $600.00 plus right now, it’s just not worth it. Malka loves her buggy board, but the hardest times are Saturdays, when we go to Shul, and she is so.ready.for.a.nap afterwords. So this is just brilliant. The thrift store by my work is like a big Value Village, and they have a “VIP Thursday discount” of 25% off. So this was $19.99, and then 25% off. So basically, a 100 dollar stroller, slightly used, for 15 bucks! And the back reclines, so her Cheekiness can nap. PHEW. 3489522680_9e992086e0

LOST TALK!

I’m finally caught up, and caught last night’s awesome, yet frustrating 100th episode. I’ll put some distance between this and my thoughts, in case you need to avert your eyes!

-OK, so what was the fucking point of knocking off my Daniel? Why the hell did she send him back there?!

-I totally had the Widmere is your daddy thing going on for a while.

-Why is Richard Alpert really an in charge guy, yet clueless as all get out, and WHY does no one notice his eyeliner? And why doesn’t he age? WHO is he working for? Is HE in a time loop?

-OK, so if we can’t change the past, right, right, right. But what about that damn butterfly effect? Because shit is happening all over the place – the “variables,” as it were are doing things un-predicted.

-I’ll be REALLY REALLY REALLY RRRRREEEEAAAAALLLY pissed off if the end of the show next year shows all of the predicted events happening, and that damn flight 815 just landing in LA, etc.  Really pissed.  I want bigger.

-And one more thing – when we MEET Daniel Faraday,  he is using a gun that he procured from the ship, the katanah.  When we see him in THIS episode, he is uncertain about gun usage, and a novice.  So um, what happened?  Because now? Is the present, even if it’s the past, you know?  So in this episode, we should have seen Daniel familliar with guns.

-And is anyone else jonesing to see grown up Miles interact with baby Miles? And see a cosmic kaboom?

OK, discuss. I have some thoughts, but I’m off to go read other people’s theories at DarkUFO.

Near. And Far.

Because it’s just.that.awesome.

The Hack…

So I’ve been promising to do a post about the Ikea Hack for a while now, but um, we’ve been a bit busy…

3245382092_d043d4eaa3_o3

So this is 4 Trofast units, a piece of plywood, fabric, a Trofast wall unit, an Ikea star light, a scrap piece of lumber, a baby-safe mirror, and a changing pad.

3249872984_68cbbed7b3_b

3249879832_8c4ae9f7ea_b

3249876866_cac0e5fca0_b

So I basically covered a piece of plywood* in fabric, screwed 3 trofast units to it,  screwed another trofast unit to the top, secured that to the wall, added the trofast wall unit, secured it all together, and added in the ikea star light for night time diaper changes, and made little labels for the bins.  The labels are the best part, because they help my sleep-deprived brain focus…

*plywood is bigger than trofast units, to accomodate the changing pad, so I secured the bottom units to the front of the board.

Letter L, with fingers, on my forehead

I have 6 drafts that await publishing. PLEASE forgive me. We’re beyond swamped, and I haven’t even had time to do the dreaded bullets post.

Which I might do soon, just to keep all 4 of you entertained.

Please forgive me, I’ll get back up to speed soon.

I will say that today, we bought a boogey board for the Maclaren XT, instead of a double stroller. It was a bit frustrating getting it on, but Malka’s in LOVE, and Noah Matan LOVES sitting in the “big kids” stroller, facing out. I can’t wait to take them to Shul w/ it, as when we went last week? LORDY. Malka was a MESS on the walk home, and I ended up carrying her on my shoulders. So until a nice Phil & Ted’s falls into our laps, this will be the next best thing.

What’s in a name?

And as today is “day 8,” I can share that his name is Noah Matan Bobby mylastname-Nardaslastname.  Noah, after Narda’s father, Norman, z”l, and Matan after my paternal grandmother, Muriel, z”l.  Bobby is the name his birthmother gave him.  Matan also means gift, in Hebrew.  And we are truly blessed with this gift.

What we know so far…

-Child #2 is INFINITELY easier than child #1 – mostly because you know what to look out for, and what to NOT freak out about.

-I don’t want to jinx a thing, but this adorable bundle slept from 1am to 8am.  DUDE.

-His cries mean one of 4 things: wet diper, need food NOW, I’m tired and have NO idea what to do about it, or random thing #4 we haven’t figured out yet.  But that’s rare, at least in this first 24 hours.

-Malka is smitten with her little baby brother, and we only hope that we can continue to give HER as much attention as we can in this transition time.

-His birth mother did not come to placement.  This makes us sad.  We only hope that, in time, we will be able to be a part of her world.  Malka’s birth mother has spoiled us…

-I forgot how delicious baby snuggles are.  Seriously.

-He sleeps in his car seat.  On his side.  Weird, but hey!  It works!

-Um, he has a penis.

-He takes little 45 minute cat naps, just like Malka did, and will do sometimes now.

-More to come, and we’ll share his name on February 11th, and will post more pictures to flickr after February 27th.

But for now?  See what I mean about baby snuggles? photo-50Better than Lexapro!
